The Bureau of Human Resources, Region 2 is currently recruiting to fill a Human Resources Specialist vacancy at either the entry or Senior level. This position will be located at the Department of Corrections (DOC) central office in Madison, Wisconsin. Region 2 provides HR services to the DOC.

Position Summary

This position performs duties related to classification, compensation, and staffing/recruitment, which include classification reviews and audits, compensation administration, and staffing/recruitment duties such as creating assessments, posting jobs, etc. This position also provides human resources consultation, interpretation, technical assistance, and customer service.

Salary Information

The starting pay is between $27.00 and $37.82 per hour for the entry level and between $33.00 and $45.67 for the Senior level, plus excellent benefits. Pay upon appointment may vary and will be in accordance with language in the Compensation Plan, Statutes, and Administrative Code. The pay schedule/range is 81-04 for the entry level and 81-03 for the Senior level. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application. Region 2 will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

NOTE: This position is eligible to work remotely up to 3 days per week.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Performing compensation activities (providing pay rate recommendations, conducting salary analysis, etc.) OR classification activities (reviewing job tasks and assigning job titles, auditing positions, etc.)
  • Performing staffing/recruitment activities such as posting jobs, creating assessments, etc.
  • Interpreting human resources related policies, procedures, laws, or regulations

In addition to the above and to be considered at the Senior level, well-qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Using advanced skills in MS Excel and/or database applications (e.g., Access, MySQL, PeopleSoft Query) to create graphs, charts, pivot tables, queries or other similar tools in order to analyze and communicate complex datasets.
  • Analyzing data for the purpose of generating reports, presentations, recommendations, or summaries for a general audience
  • Performing complex compensation and/or classification activities, such as implementing new job titles, audits, creating pay plans or structures, etc.
