The Wisconsin Veterans Home in King (WVHK) is seeking a Custodian Lead to join our housekeeping team. The Home is a 24/7/365 skilled nursing, long-term care facility that provides comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. The facility is on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O'Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton.

Position Summary


Come lead the dedicated team that maintains clean and enjoyable living and recreation areas for Wisconsin veterans who call our facility home!

This Housekeeping/Custodial Lead Worker performs lead-worker duties for a crew of custodians at WVHK and is responsible for training custodians on their job duties, including infection control policies and procedures, sanitation procedures, floor surface maintenance, operation of equipment, and chemical use. In addition, the position performs custodial services for assigned building patientcare and non-patientcare areas and provides coverage throughout the campus as needed. All job duties are performed in accordance with standard safety principles and practices, following WDVA policies and WVHK’s Custodial Services standard operating procedures.

Salary Information


Starting wage will be $18.00 per hour, with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.

Custodian Lead is in pay schedule-pay range 03-09.

Pay will be set in accordance with the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan in effect at the time of hire. Pay for current State employees may vary based on applicable provisions in the Compensation Plan.

Job Details


The Custodian Lead works 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays. They must be available to work as needed.

Work duties are performed on site.

Job duties require climbing, reaching and bending; performing sustained physical activity; performing heavy work, including occasionally exerting more than 100 pounds of force; operating loud, shaking and/or vibrating equipment; and working on ladders and/or scaffolding.

Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Qualifications


The required qualifications that will be reviewed in the first step of the process are experience:

  • independently performing housekeeping/custodial duties (e.g., cleaning common areas, cleaning offices and occupied rooms, maintaining floors, using sanitation procedures, using automated equipment, selecting suitable cleaning products, handling chemicals, maintaining a housekeeping cart, using personal protective equipment, ensuring safety, using infection prevention methods, working around patients or other vulnerable people, etc.)
  • performing these duties in a commercial, institutional, healthcare, or industrial setting

The preferred qualification that will be reviewed in the first step of the process is experience:

  • training another person to complete a task

In addition to the qualifications reviewed in the first step of the process, qualifications that will be reviewed in next steps are experience:

  • Communicating in a professional manner *

  • Working independently *

  • Working on a team *

  • Training others to perform tasks

  • Leading a team

  • Problem solving

  • Organizing and managing workload and resources

  • Using a computer to perform work tasks

  • With chemical safety, personal protective equipment, and infection control
