WEDC is a Wisconsin-based organization, with a remote-work first environment. Remote work is intended to be performed in the State of Wisconsin.

Position Summary


The Financial Underwriter is primarily responsible for award underwriting and providing financial assistance for business and community development. This position is a key business member of a project team, participates in project development, disseminates project information, and is an active participant in project-related work groups and committees. The Financial Underwriter provides technical support to and underwriting of all WEDC financial offerings This position advances WEDC’s mission by helping deploy strategic financial resources that strengthen Wisconsin’s economy and expand opportunities for its people, communities and businesses.

Salary Information


$58,500.00 - $71,650.00 / Year

Job Details


The Financial Underwriter will spend a majority of their time in these activities:

  • Evaluate applicants using established criteria, drawing on a thorough understanding of financial information
  • Support the integrity of WEDC programs by assessing eligibility and risk in alignment with program guidelines, statutory requirements, and compliance standards
  • Contribute to a knowledgeable and capable team by sharing expertise and offering training when necessary
  • Maintain accurate and reliable records that support organizational transparency and regulatory needs
  • Collaborate across divisions and participate in initiatives that strengthen program effectiveness, enhance processes, and advance strategic goals
  • Provide flexibility in taking on responsibilities as requested to support the team, divisional, and organizational priorities
  • Pursue professional growth and continuous learning with company-supported opportunities to further develop skills and apply new knowledge
  • Represent WEDC in public settings, cultivating positive relationships with partners and stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, related field or comparable education/experience/training
  • Minimum of three years of experience in underwriting or related field

Skills and Talents

  • Attention to detail, supported by quantitative, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft tools (Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) as well as Salesforce
  • The ability to work with clients of varied and diverse backgrounds
  • Negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to deal effectively with senior executives, as well as diverse groups of people internal and external to the organization
  • Confidence in operating within a client-facing environment

Other Requirements

  • State-wide travel may occur on an occasional basis, less than 20% of the time. Travel may include day and overnight travel
  • Based on the responsibilities of this position, this position may need to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
