Introduction
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a dedicated and experienced law enforcement professional to serve as a Detective Sergeant. This leadership role is integral in supervising criminal investigations, ensuring public safety, and upholding the highest standards of law enforcement. The purpose of this position is to supervise the activities of Detectives within the criminal investigation division and participate in investigations for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Position Summary
You will be successful in this role by completing the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Reviews, evaluates, and assigns criminal complaints.
- Prepares cases for prosecution. Reviews criminal complaints and evidence for accuracy. Work with DA’s office. Sign complaints. Testifies in court. Prepares press releases.
- Monitors progress of investigations. Conducts internal investigations, prepares reports and interviews.
- Develops and deals with outside sources.
- Oversees the collection, processing, handling, and chain of custody of evidence.
Salary Information
Wage starts at $44.84 - $50.38/per hour, depending on qualifications.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- Five years of experience with a law enforcement agency.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from a college or university plus five years of experience with a law enforcement agency; prior supervisory and investigative experience
Other Requirements -Certificates/Licensures:
- Certification in accordance with State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board.
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s license.
- No felony or domestic abuse convictions.
