Introduction
Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) is recruiting for a Volunteer Services Coordinator who will work approximately 30 hours per week. WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.
This position will be required to travel approximately 5% of the time within a 25-mile radius of WMHI.

Position Summary
As the Volunteer Services Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing the Volunteer Services program at WMHI. Duties include:
- Promoting, coordinating, and assisting various institute activities and projects.
- Facilitating recruiting and providing orientation, training, and supervision of volunteers.
- Developing and implementing volunteer program and services.
- Acting as curator and manager of the museum including tours for staff and the community.
- Ensuring accountability of donations (monetary, supplies, and services) for the institute from community organizations and donors.
- Maintaining appropriate records and reports of Fashion Korner, volunteers, museum, and activities as assigned.
Salary Information
The starting salary is between $25.00 and $27.00 per hour (between $52,000 and $56,100 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Volunteer Coordinator and is in pay schedule and range 12/64.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.
Physical requirements include the ability to bend, pull, kneel, squat, stoop, twist torso, lift up to 50 lbs., engage in moderate walking and standing, and pull or push a cart.
This position requires the ability to drive a State vehicle. In order to become authorized to drive a State vehicle, you must meet the requirements for the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle policy, which are:
- Must have a valid driver's license;
- Must have minimum of two years licensed driving experience;
- Must be 18 years of age.
Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:
- Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years;
- Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months;
- Suspension or revocation of driver's license.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) for tasks such as email correspondence, data entry, inventory tracking, formal or informal presentations, etc.
- Experience providing customer service (e.g., providing instructions, answering questions, resolving customer complaints/conflict, etc.) in a professional or business setting.
- Training or experience in general budgeting practices and inventory control.
Well-qualified applicants will also have at least one of the following:
- Experience leading a team or project (e.g., recruiting volunteers, training, delegating tasks, maintaining deadlines, leading meetings, etc.).
- Experience providing support to individuals with mental health and/or substance use concerns.
- Experience working within a secure/locked facility, hospital or community-based program.
