Employment requires a fingerprint-based criminal-background check to be provided at the West Virginia Tax Division’s expense. Failing to initiate the process or cooperate with this process, providing false or incomplete information, or discovery of disqualifying information will result in denial of, or dismissal from, employment or denial of transfer irrespective of when discovered. The chosen applicant will also be subject to a tax compliance check.

Minimum Qualifications
Training: Associate degree from an accredited college or university. At the appointing agency's discretion, competitive candidates may receive probationary appointment pending official verification of the qualifying degree. The qualifying degree must be verified before the employee may be certified permanent.
OR
Substitution: Additional experience as described below may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.
AND
Experience: Four (4) years of experience at the State Tax Division, or four (4) years of experience in providing accounting support and/or clerical office support.
OR
Substitution: Successful completion of a course of study in an accredited college or university which included three (3) semester hours of math and/or accounting may substitute for the experience as described above at a rate of thirty (30) semester hours of training for every one (1) year of experience.

Examples of work to be performed include but are not limited to:
- Gathers, analyzes, and interprets data to provide insights that support decision-making in the investigation and enforcement of civil and criminal violations of tax law. Collects data from various sources including tax returns and other documents, databases, reports, surveillance, and open-source intelligence.
- Examines data collected to identify trends, patterns, potential threats, and violations of tax law to assist in investigations.
- Assesses potential problems, identifies patterns, and produces reports to inform division actions and mitigate risks.
- Utilizes additional information provided by taxpayers and other sources to develop or reconstruct records to build a case.
- Creates detailed reports and briefings for stakeholders, summarizing findings and providing recommendations on case and enforcement strategy.
- Draft correspondence on complex and sensitive tax issues to obtain additional information from or to relay information to and from investigative team.
- Assist in the development of tax forms, instructions, and other publications.
- Work as assigned by CID Management; assistance to Financial Analyst and Support Analyst as needed.
