Please include details of daily job duties on your online application or resume. How do you qualify for this job title? Please note that this question is only asking how you meet the minimum qualifications. You will be asked about your overall/total experience in the next question.

  • I have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • I have at least four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience which involved analyzing and interpreting structural blueprints and/or the interpretation or enforcement of fire regulations for occupancies, fire prevention, fire safety, building inspection, construction or a safety related field.
  • I have a combination of successful completion of coursework from an accredited college or university *AND* full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience which involved analyzing and interpreting structural blueprints and/or the interpretation or enforcement of fire regulations for occupancies, fire prevention, fire safety, building inspection, construction or a safety related field to equal a total of four (4) years. College/university can substitute for the qualifying experience at the rate of every thirty (30) semester hours or every forty-five (45) quarter hours equals one (1) year of qualifying experience.
  • I do not meet any of the above training and experience requirements. Please do not apply.

02

The next question asks how many total years of education and/or full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience you have which involved analyzing and interpreting structural blueprints and/or the interpretation or enforcement of fire regulations for occupancies, fire prevention, fire safety, building inspection, construction or a safety related field. To help you answer this question, please use the following equivalency chart to convert any undergraduate college or university education you have completed into the appropriate amount of qualifying experience: Every thirty (30) undergraduate semester hours = One (1) year of experience Every forty-five (45) undergraduate quarter hours = One (1) year of experience Associate Degree = Two (2) years of experience Bachelor’s Degree = Four (4) years of experience For example: if you have an Associate’s degree in Fire Science and four (4) years of part-time paid experience as a volunteer fire fighter (which would mean that you worked 20 hours per week for 8 years), you would count the Associate’s degree as two (2) years of experience from the chart above to add to your four (4) years of volunteer fire fighting experience for a total of six (6) years of combined education and qualifying experience. Therefore, you would select: “I have a total of six (6) to less than eight (8) years of combined education and/or qualifying experience as described above…” from the choices below. Here is another example: if you have thirty (30) college semester hours and twelve (12) years of paid experience which involved analyzing and interpreting structural blueprints, using the chart above, you would convert the thirty (30) semester hours to one (1) year of qualifying experience, and add that to your twelve (12) years of military experience to get a total of 13 years of combined education and qualifying experience. Therefore, you would select: “I have a total of twelve (12) or more years of combined education and/or qualifying experience as described above…” from the choices below. One final example: If you have a high school diploma and ten (10) years, six (6) months in the construction and building inspection field, simply select: “I have a total of ten (10) to less than twelve (12) years of combined education and/or qualifying experience as described above. …” from the choices below. How many total years of education and/or full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience do you have which involved analyzing and interpreting structural blueprints and/or the interpretation or enforcement of fire regulations for occupancies, fire prevention, fire safety, building inspection, construction or a safety related field?

  • I have a total of zero (0) to less than four (4) years of combined education and/or qualifying experience as described above.
  • I have a total of four (4) to less than six (6) years of combined education and/or qualifying experience as described above.
  • I have a total of six (6) to less than eight (8) years of combined education and/or qualifying experience as described above.
  • I have a total of eight (8) to less than ten (10) years of combined education and/or qualifying experience as described above.
  • I have a total of ten (10) to less than twelve (12) years of combined education and/or qualifying experience as described above.
