What are the responsibilities and job description for the Correctional Counselor 1 position at State of West Virginia?
Nature of Work
Under general supervision, the Correctional Counselor 1 will function as a member of a team providing services to an assigned caseload of inmates withing the facility. The work of the Correctional Counselor 1 will consist of providing a variety of services to the inmate population. Duties may vary as to job function or area of specialization based on the program being administered. Areas of responsibilities may include assisting the unit Correctional Officer with security duties, providing vocational education, substance abuse education, assisting with recreational services, providing crisis intervention on the unit, guidance of inmates, assistance with need and/or risk assessments, classification, and diagnostic evaluations. Will perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Training: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in criminal justice, corrections, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling and guidance, criminology, social work, education, therapeutic recreation or closely related field.
