The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to take on the role as our next Pretrial Services Program Coordinator within the Court Consulting and Technical Assistance team. This position will provide direct technical assistance and consultation services to help Washington state trial courts identify and implement changes to the court operations, programs, processes, practices or staffing so our courts can operate more fairly and effectively. The Pretrial Services Program Coordinator will also work with stakeholders to continue a pretrial services program that promotes best practices, provides technical assistance to local courts, and distributes funding for trial courts through a competitive application process. The program will continue to collect data and evaluate funded programs to assess their value, feasibility and replicability for possible program expansion.  


Manages participation of diverse stakeholder groups in development, implementation and evaluation of significant, high-impact changes to judicial programs, court processes, practices, and staffing to improve the efficiency/effectiveness and integrity of court operations as well as enhance consumer experiences and outcomes.


The preferred candidate will have expert knowledge and experience with the justice system with specific focus on the Washington State court system; laws, procedures, and practices within courts of limited and general jurisdiction; principles, best practices and trends in court administration.


This is a senior professional level job that works with minimal supervision and applies independent judgment and decision making on complex, and highly technical, major projects. May lead and review the work of other professional staff and support staff.

Salary:            Range 68: $86,688 - $113,736 per year (DOQ).

*Duration: This project position is currently funded through June 30, 2027. 


WASHINGTON STATE RESIDENCY AND TELEWORK INFORMATION


AOC requires employees to reside in Washington State. Any exceptions must be approved. If you are invited to an interview and currently reside outside of Washington State, seek more information about residency requirements from the AOC hiring manager for this recruitment.


This position requires you to be in the office at least two (2) days per week.


Some of the duties you will perform are:

  • Plans, implements, monitors and evaluates court program components involving significant impact on judicial programs, including completion of complex or highly technical major projects and objectives.
  • Manages inter-jurisdictional, comprehensive programs and/or complex/highly technical major projects.  Designs and analyzes alternative management techniques and estimates the statewide impact of implementing proposed change(s). Completes research, assessments, and provides recommendations to a designated Manager or Executive.
  • Provides information, assessment, consultation, support and recommendations to AOC, courts, associations and boards and commissions within major operational areas (i.e., personnel management, contracting, performance management, budget development, court service delivery and/or judicial system policy and procedure) to achieve consistent, efficient, and effective programs and operations.
  • Analyzes and evaluates proposed legislation and its probable impact upon project and program goals; prepares briefs on proposed legislation.
  • May supervise the work of other professional staff and support staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Relevant experience may substitute for the required education.


  • A Bachelor’s degree in court administration, public administration, political science, business administration or closely allied field


AND


  • Five (5) years of responsible experience in court administration and/or program development, including one (1) year in a supervisory or lead role and/or managing/directing groups or teams.

  • Effective at facilitating strategic planning, visioning efforts, and challenging meetings with diverse stakeholders.
