The salary offer will be based on the candidate’s job-related skills, experience and training. The target pay range of consideration for this exempt position is typically $84,924-$163,044 annually.

Job Highlights


The Chief Electrical Inspector is responsible for:


  • The Washington State Electrical Program while ensuring it is keeping Washington safe and working.
  • The program's performance management, training, policy development, budget management, quality control, and interpretation of the Electrical Law on a statewide level.
  • Fighting fraud through reducing the impacts of the underground economy and contractors that compete unfairly,providing a high quality and consistent product, and providing an overall good customer experience.


The Electrical Program is responsible for the administration, electrical plan review, electrical license audit, electrical licensing, electrical compliance enforcement, continuing education administration, electrical testing laboratory accreditation and program wide training. The program performs over 26,000 electrical inspections to ensure that all electrical installations and maintenance are safe for consumers and workers in Washington state and licenses over 38,500 electricians and electrical contractors to help ensure that only qualified workers engage in the electrical business. This position manages the programs operations and administration, providing oversight and leadership to 175 employees.

Some of what you’ll do:


  • Ensure the safety of the citizens of Washington by being responsible for the administration and provision of technical guidance and decision making for the Electrical Program.
  • Utilize strategic planning and judgment to draft and interpret complex legislation, technical policies and rules which have long term effects on L&I and its impact of service affecting consumers in Washington. 
  • Use strategic judgment for long-range planning to continue the financial health of the program and the efficient delivery of services considering industry change.
  • Make the final interpretations and resolve disputes of adopted electrical standards, rules, and policies for the statewide Electrical Program.
  • Perform long range planning for complex issues and develop complex policies, procedures and administrative rules.

Required:

  • Four years of experience as journeyman electrician in the electrical construction trade installing and maintaining electrical systems, or other experience as outlined in RCW 19.28.321.
  • Valid unrestricted driver's license and have insurance if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
  • The ability to take action to learn and grow. 
  • The ability to take action to meet the needs of others. 


Desired:

  • Possession of a valid AD01 or ME01electrical certificate for 4 or more years.
  • Four years of experience inspecting electrical installations or leading in a regulatory environment for electrical installations and construction.
  • Experience in the ownership or management of an electrical contracting business.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Four years of management and/or supervisory experience involving progressively challenging management assignments.
  • Experience with boards or commissions.
