The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Human Resource Consultant Assistant 2 located at the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton, WA.
Washington Corrections Center (WCC) is located 35 miles west of Olympia, the state capitol. WCC is the Reception and Diagnostic Center, a close-custody facility with the primary responsibility to process, test, and classify all adult male felons sentenced to prison in Washington State. The facility has eight living units and houses approximately 1,500 incarcerated individuals. 600 incarcerated individuals are screened and assessed each month. WCC is also major hub for transfer of incarcerated individuals to and from facilities throughout the state.

This position provides the primary administrative support to the Washington Corrections Center, Training Department and Facility Performance Coordinator (FPC). Working with the FPC under their supervision and guidance, providing customer service support to approximately 700 DOC staff, contract staff and volunteers. This position requires the ability to use independent judgement to determine when to respond to inquiries or refer to the FPC. Coordinates the functions of the FPC and exercises independent judgment and problem solving to relieve the FPC of day-to-day routine office matters.
- Creating and maintaining annual in-service files, coordination and/or creation of in-service, special team, and various training rosters in the LC (Learning Center).
- Creating training rosters/classes in LC and tracking that training accordingly, ordering supplies, scheduling training room/range for inside and outside stakeholders, pulling/requesting training histories from the LC.
- Pulling compliance reports from LC for in-service or other training courses, pulling reports for department supervisors regarding staff compliance.
- Working with the safety officer and business office on assigning specific courses for staff completion.
- Submitting training requests for requested non-DOC courses. Answering questions and providing information via email and telephone.
- Delegated authority to independently communicate to employees, department heads, and executive staff training needs, status, requirements and availability of training resources. Assist instructors with preparation, set up, finding last minute instructors, clean-up of classrooms and answering questions regarding training.
- Develop and maintain databases, spreadsheets and forms for tracking of in-service and additional training.
- Assist with the facilitation of new employee orientation for staff and contractors.
- Prepares orientation packets for either contract or DOC staff, creates ID badges for staff and contract staff through WOMS, deactivates badge account once employee as separated.
- Works with the Volunteer Coordinator on printing badges for volunteers after completion of appropriate orientation.
- Escort new staff to the fingerprints area. Assign key hooks and places work orders for staff accountability tags and key chits, works with minor control officer on removing accountability tags after employee is no longer with DOC. This ensures accurate information in the event of a staff recall.
- Answers questions, provides tours, escorts to the warehouse for uniforms if needed.
- Conducts security orientation and key control with new staff/contract staff. Reviews in-service with new staff, gives a tour of how to locate the Learning Center on the computer and what trainings to complete.
- Develops and maintains excel tracking sheet for contract staff on site and will update as contract staff leave the facility.
- Communicate with Payroll, HR, Shift, Roster, Records and Warehouse for orientation.
- Assists students in the computer lab with computer use, access and training.
- Attends staff meetings and takes minutes when needed. Attend meeting for FPC when the FPC is out or unavailable.
- Attends statewide FPC meetings with FPC and TDU updates.
- Follows records and retention schedule for archives files as needed.
- Performs other duties as required and provides to relief to other positions as assigned.
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Type 50 words per minute
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
Desired:
- Four (4) years senior level office experience, which normally includes two (2) years in a Human Resource environment or related setting; OR equivalent education/experience.
- Experience in using the Learning Center or any other training tracking system,
- Experience in using TAS/WOMS
- Experience in using ATLAS
