DSHS ALTSA APS Training Unit Manager - Centralized Intake

Adult Protective Services(APS) is seeking a passionate leader, who is an excellent communicator with solid experience to fill our APS Unit Manager opportunity. You'll join a close-knit team that empowers and supports each other and makes a difference while "making it happen".
 
 In this role, you'll be responsible for supervising and managing the day-to-day operations of the APS statewide centralized intake unit that includes APS supervisors, intake staff, and support staff. In addition, you'll be responsible for monitoring daily activity, compiling and analyzing data, setting goals and objectives for the unit, overseeing quality assurance activities as it relates to intake, training and staff development, and overall program
 integrity regarding the intake process. What's more, this position is responsible for maintaining and continuous improvement of the response and consistency of screening reports of abandonment, abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, and self-neglect.

This position will utilize a hybrid structure of telework and in-person as business needs require.

  • Ability to provide training, policy interpretation, clarification, and consultation 
  • Your ability to provide knowledgeable, reliable, and professionally sound guidance regarding the design, development, and implementation of the APS centralized intake system. 

Your day will include:

  • Providing supervision, direction, and support to centralized intake supervisors and line staff setting expectations for performance, recruitment, hiring, mentoring, coaching, training, and evaluating performance. 
  • Conducting regularly scheduled team meetings to review activities of the team, organizing and prioritizing team activities, reviewing completed tasks & deadlines; Setting new goals, priorities, and deadlines. 
  • Conducting 1:1 meetings with intake supervisors and designing unit work plans to identify goals, strategies, and timelines to carry out agency objectives. 
  • Ensuring there is an ongoing collaboration with Tribal Governments regarding APS reports through the sharing of information and the initiation and implementation of working agreements. 
  • Directing, monitoring, and ensuring that APS centralized intake staff are in compliance with meeting expectations set forth in RCW 74.34 and other policies. 

Required education, experience, and competencies:

A Bachelor's degree in social work, health, social science, public administration, related field, preferred candidate will possess a Master's degree.
 Experience in application of advanced program management principles and skills and an understanding of the diverse organizational culture and business processes with the HCS Division.
 And,
 A minimum of five years of experience as a Social Service Specialist 3 in Adult Protective Services conducting field investigations, or three years of experience as a Social Service Specialist 4 (Supervisor).
 Or,  

Seven to Nine years of professional/practical experience in social work, health, social science, public administration work comparable to a Social Service Specialist.

Preferred/desired education, experience, and competencies:

  • Experience with managing professional staff or leading and managing a central business function, such as central intake. 
  • Application of advanced program management principles and skills and an understanding of the diverse organizational culture and business processes with the APS Division. 
  • Knowledge of federal and state administrative regulations and laws; and policies related to due process. 
  • Ability to communicate and comprehend, through oral and written forms of communication with management, peers, clients, and the public. 
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principle of person-centered planning, consumer choice, and self-direction. 
  • Methods and techniques of policy development and management, including principles and practices of program planning and evaluation.
