Here are some of the other duties you can expect:

  • Theory review of assessments is achieved by independently performing theory review of tax assessments submitted for issuance by Compliance tax discovery staff, ensuring proper identification and assessment of taxes and penalties consistent with statutory, regulatory, and agency requirements.

  • Staying current on all statutory, regulatory, and tax policy changes involving taxation and ensuring those changes are communicated amongst the review team first; then providing communication and training on the changes to divisional staff. While researching taxability topics and developing training, this position will work all stages of the Tax Discovery investigation and assessment submission process.
  • Remaining current on best practices from other divisions conducting theory review in the process of issuing assessments and keeping the CRRT District Compliance Manager appraised for ideas and suggestions for improvements.
  • Supporting other essential functions of the CRRT while providing technical guidance, training on taxability, and assessment review to Compliance Tax Discovery staff statewide.
  • Working to resolve complex; time sensitive and possibly politically sensitive taxpayer issues related to theory review and tax policy. As the duties of this position help align divisional tax assessment practice with other operating divisions, it promotes consistency in the application of tax law, which supports the mission of the agency to fairly and efficiently collect revenues.
