The Department of Revenue Information Services (IS) division currently has a rare and amazing opportunity for a Chief Architect in Tumwater, WA. The Chief Architect is a key member of the Information Services Division leadership team and directly supports the mission of the agency and the purpose of the division by managing the Architecture Office, which reports to the Senior Manager of Planning and Delivery. This position leads the agency in enterprise architecture concepts, is a member of the Management Team, and contributes to the selection or design of secure, dependable, and high-quality technology systems and services for the agency.

What you will be doing
You will be leading and supervising highly skilled and experienced architecture staff which report directly to you. These include four senior level solution architects specializing in mobility, cloud, M365, and other specialized areas. Additionally, you operate an Architecture Board comprised of over a dozen subject matter architects reporting into various technical areas in the IS Division. The Architecture Board weighs in on or observes approach, designs, standards, and DOR, WaTech, State CIO, and other state and federal policy.
You will be keeping DOR up to date with contemporary solutions and best practices around the design of our solutions, integration with outside solutions, and with emerging technology and frameworks in support of DORs mission and goals.
You will be assisting the Sr. Manager of Planning & Delivery to continue to advance the in its continuing transition from a technical architecture program to an Enterprise Architecture program.
You will be a consultant to the CIO, CISO, Information Services Senior Managers, and to other agency entities as necessary to help disseminate information, solutions, approaches, and compliance with various security, privacy, and standards best practices.
You will represent the agency among your statewide peers and organizations through various boards and committees.
You will continue to mature the Architecture discipline within the operational needs of the Department of Revenue.

Please Note: This position can be performed nearly entirely from a remote location. However, the candidate must agree to be able to report to the duty station for this position in Tumwater, Washington when requested. The candidate may also elect to report to the duty station full-time, if desired. Details of teleworking considerations will be addressed during the interview process.
The top candidate for this opportunity will be highly ethical, with demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively communicate with varied audiences and demonstrate strong analytical skills, in addition to the following qualifications:

The candidate must demonstrate that they meet these required elements of this position:
Eight (8) or more years of information technology experience that demonstrates progressive advancement and the application of knowledge in core IT disciplines such as data management, application development, security, system integration, system administration, networking, architecture, server engineering, etc.,Five (5) years of demonstrated experience (may be concurrent with requirements above) in the field of Information Technology Architecture including the ability to hear and understand business processes, formulate and communicate technical solutions, create high level and detailed designs or other technical artifacts which can improve those processes, and design/architect information solutions to address business problems,
At least two (2) years of experience (may be concurrent with requirements above) with direct supervision of professional IT staff, such as coaching/mentoring, professional evaluations, training, observing, and supporting them in their roles, etc.
Demonstrated skills in writing and constructing technical documentation such as designs, system diagrams, technical process and workflow development, database schema, etc.
