The Opportunity
The Adoption Support Program assists in removing barriers for families adopting special needs children by providing financial, medical, and counseling support to families who adopt from Washington State. The Adoption Support Program Consultant Position is responsible for determining eligibility, implementation onto the program, and supporting families post-adoption while the child remains eligible in the program. Without the duties of this position, permanency through adoption may not be achieved.

- Provide post-adoption resources for medical coverage, counseling, selected evidence-based therapeutic interventions, and a monthly cash payment to assist in meeting the needs of the child.
- Manage the adoption support contracts for all assigned youth and their families to support ongoing eligibility.
- Review intakes for assigned providers to determine ongoing eligibility while adhering to program guidance.
- Assist and advocate for families in obtaining services to address the needs of their child/children in collaboration with community partners.
- Inform parents of counseling support services.
- Receive, evaluate, and approve preauthorization requests for counseling or evaluation services.
- Determine adoption support eligibility for youth to be adopted from the child welfare system or child-placing agencies.
- Determine adoption support eligibility for private adoptions, tribal adoptions, and extenuating circumstances cases.
- Prepare for and represent the department at administrative hearings related to adoption support.
- Input data/case notes and upload all documentation for case-related activities into FAMLINK.
- Equivalent education and/or experience totaling eight years of professional experience in planning, administering, developing, or delivering social, financial, health, or chemical dependency treatment services programs.
- A Bachelor's degree in social work, a health or social science, public administration, or a related field, and four years of professional experience in planning, administering, developing, or delivering social, financial, health, or chemical dependency treatment services programs.
