DSHS DDA Attendant Counselor Manager

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Development Disabilities Administration (DDA) is looking to hire an Attendant Counselor Manager (ACM) to join in the State Operated Community Residential (SOCR) Transition Program, in Yakima, Washington.

This position supports the Administration’s efforts in the dissemination of evidence-based practices, effective processes, and development of performance measures to sustain and improve outcomes for clients receiving SOCR Transitions services from DDA. The ACM reports to the Program Administrator of the SOCR Transitions program.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
Some of what you'll do:
  • Ensure Attendant Counselor 3 (AC3) positions provide daily direct support to promote habilitation, health, safety, protection, and quality of life to clients in their homes and in the community
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individual Instruction Support Plans (IISP)
  • Develop, implement, monitor, collect and analyze data for client goals; ensure direct supports are provided in a professional, respectful and dignified manner
  • Assure employees complete all mandatory training, assessments, programs, treatment, recording, and documentation
  • Ensure that AC staff are trained in and use the proper techniques in implementing habilitation, skill acquisition, and behavioral programs
  • Coordinate and oversee client’s health and medical care; ensure clients receive the care and specialized treatment services, including prescribed exercises, administration of specialized equipment, modified diets, medication management and nurse-delegated task
  • Reviews and responds to AC staff's observations and documentation and any reports of changes in client's general physical or mental condition or unusual behavior
  • Communicates directly and/or ensures AC staff communicates appropriately with client's relatives/guardians on information on policies and procedures
Preferred skills, knowledge and abilities:
  • Supervise, initiate, and participate in the hiring, training, counseling, corrective action, and evaluation process of staff
  • Ability to implement individualized programs, plans, and services to facilitate independence
  • Ability to handle multiple urgent issues and prioritize as needed
  • Demonstrated understanding of all aspects of client care
  • Ability to protect clients from harm to themselves or others and work with people with disabilities who may exhibit challenging behaviors
  • Ability to train, direct, and supervise the tasks of staff, and provide effective, timely feedback given orally or in writing
  • Ability to lead a team and to be flexible for program needs
Who should apply?
Those with high school graduation or GED and 4 years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities
OR
High school graduation or GED and four years of experience as an Attendant Counselor 1, equivalent or higher-level state class
