Overview

Interviewing and analytical work at an entry technical level for the Vermont Department of Labor involving the adjudication of eligibility issues for benefits under the Vermont Unemployment Compensation law. Duties including contacting claimants, employers, and others to gather information pertaining to claims. Work at this level differs from higher level adjudicators in the complexity of cases assigned, and the increased feedback, direction and quality control review of cases. Incumbents function within established regulations, policies, and precedent decisions. Work is performed under the direction of an Unemployment Compensation Program Administrator.

This is an in-office position. Remote and/or hybrid work schedules are not available at this time.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a call center. Incumbent must work with a heavy caseload with extreme and exacting time lapse requirements and deadlines, and pass ongoing and quarterly federal quality review. Work is also subject to appeal with Administrative Law Judges, Employment Security Board and the Vermont Supreme Court. Incumbents can expect to encounter stressful situations with dealing with claimants', employers, and others.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years or more of experience at or above a technical level in employment services, unemployment compensation programs, customer service, working in a Call Center, or performing high level administrative duties. Administrative duties are those beyond general clerical or secretarial, such as interpretation of laws, rules and regulations; data collection and analysis; managing support services; and implementing program policies and procedures.

OR

Associate's degree AND four (4) years or more of experience at or above a technical level in employment services, unemployment compensation programs, customer service, working in a Call Center, or performing high level administrative duties. Administrative duties are those beyond general clerical or secretarial, such as interpretation of laws, rules and regulations; data collection and analysis; managing support services; and implementing program policies and procedures.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent AND six (6) years or more of experience at or above a technical level in employment services, unemployment compensation programs, customer service, working in a Call Center, or performing high level administrative duties. Administrative duties are those beyond general clerical or secretarial, such as interpretation of laws, rules and regulations; data collection and analysis; managing support services; and implementing program policies and procedures.

OR

Three (3) years as a UC Claims Adjudicator I (Must have demonstrated expertise and full competency in all duties at this level.)
