Overview

The Vermont Department of Labor is seeking a motivated Policy Intern to join our team in Montpelier. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in policy research, analysis, and development within a state government setting. As a Policy Intern, you will work closely with the Department's Policy Director to support initiatives that shape labor policies and workforce strategies in Vermont.

Who May Apply

This position, Internship - Policy (Paid) - Temporary (Job Requisition # 53966), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours, and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Key Responsibilities

-Assist in conducting research and analysis on the labor market, workforce development programs, and legislative proposals.
-Draft policy briefs, memos, and reports summarizing research findings and recommendations.
-Monitor and track legislative and regulatory developments related to labor policies.
-Monitor legislative hearings and prepare accurate, timely notes to keep leadership informed.
-Support stakeholder engagement efforts by preparing materials for meetings, forums, and public hearings.
-Collaborate with departmental staff on special projects and initiatives as assigned.
-Provide administrative support to the policy team, including notetaking, data entry, and document management.

Qualifications

-Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise reports.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
-Interest in labor issues, economic policy, and public sector administration.
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Skills

-Previous coursework or experience in policy analysis, legislative affairs, or government relations.
-Knowledge of Vermont state government structure, policies, and priorities.
-Demonstrated interest or experience in workforce development, labor economics, or related fields.
