BGS Institutional Custodian

Overview

Buildings and General Services at the State of Vermont has an exciting opportunity with room for growth as a Custodian Institutional, with Operations and Maintenance.

The BGS Custodian Institutional is tasked with custodial cleaning and minor maintenance work caring for the Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital (VPCH).

This position will:

• Work individually or as part of a group at the assigned facility
• Clean patient rooms, bathrooms, offices, and other patient/resident spaces
• Strip and wax floors, spot and extract carpet
• Operate motorized floorcare equipment.
• Instruct others in work methods and proper use of equipment
• Keep an inventory of supplies and may submit orders
• Perform related work as required

This is a full-time position and hours are to be determined. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a criminal background check are required.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a hospital or rehabilitation environment, including office, classroom, and patient care settings. Direct interaction with patients or residents may be extensive, leading to potential exposure to infectious disease or physical injury. Duties may, at times, extend beyond the normal daytime and work week hours. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition and ability to climb ladders and lift heavy weights and equipment (up to 60 lbs.) is necessary. Some overtime may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more experience of building custodial work that included floor maintenance tasks such as stripping and waxing floors and carpet extraction.

OR

Two (2) years as a BGS Custodian II.

Special Requirements

Some positions in this class require a valid driver's license and own transportation for travel between work locations.

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
