Overview
Buildings & General Services at the State of Vermont has an opportunity with room for growth as a BGS Maintenance Specialist. This position will be responsible for buildings and facilities maintenance for the Northwest District, primarily throughout the St. Albans area. The ideal candidate will have a valid Journeyman Electrician's license.

This is a full-time position and the schedule is 7am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. This position requires a valid driver's license and successful completion of multiple background checks.

As of July 12, 2026, the step 1 rate for pay grade 21 will be $25.08 per hour and the step 15 rate will be $39.04 per hour.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed at state buildings including correctional and mental health facilities. Contact with inmates may be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to climb ladders, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas. Standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, and sitting for extended periods of time may be required. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. Position requires possession of a valid driver's license. Some potential for physical injury may be present.
Minimum Qualifications
State licensure at or above the journeyman level in any trade area.
OR
Four (4) or more years of experience in building maintenance or construction, structural maintenance, or landscaping/grounds INCLUDING one (1) or more year in a specialized trade (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pesticide).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in carpentry, welding, locksmithing, public water systems operations, horticultural, and/or pesticide application.
Special Requirements
Some positions in this class may require a valid driver's license and/or own transportation for travel between work sites.
