The Miscellaneous Taxes division is looking for two individuals who need minimal supervision to fill their Tax Examiner position. You will play an integral role in USTC's mission to administer tax laws. You must be current on your state and federal tax filings and pass a criminal background check.

Job Duties
Tax Examiners will perform complex audits, audits of state tax returns to determine compliance with Utah
Tax Laws And Rules. Tax Examiners Duties Will Include
- interpreting tax laws, rules and policies
- ensuring compliance with miscellaneous taxes
- evaluating and reviewing business reports, tax files and previous audits
- scheduling and conducting audits with taxpayers
- auditing taxpayer recordsinterviewing taxpayers
- preparing audit reports
- providing training
- answering tax professionals questions as a part of a contact center
- participate in outreach training to educate tax professionals and the public
- This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office (2 days) and remote work days.

Qualifications
Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate For This Position Is Someone Who
- has at least two years of experience reviewing miscellaneous taxes
- has the knowledge of the theory and practice of laws
- has the ability to do extensive research
- has the ability to communicate effectively
Preference Will Be Given To Applicants With The Following
- Has working knowledge of the Utah State Tax Commission policies and procedures
- Educational Background or Experience Equivalent of:
- Four or more years of experience with auditing , or
- A bachelor's degree or higher in a related field of study in Accounting.
- Transcripts need to be included with the application.
Working Conditions
- Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of officeequipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing;bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform thework.
- Personal tax filings and vehicle registrations must be current and complete.
- A conditional offer of employment will be made pending a satisfactory completion of a FBI level backgroundinvestigation.
