Duties
This position serves as both a support to professional child welfare staff and a direct service provider to families and youth. The Family Support Assistant (FSA) plays a key role in arranging and supervising family visitations, providing transportation, and supporting day-to-day office operations. They also perform the following duties:
- Arrange and supervise family visitations; document visits promptly in the SAFE system.
- Provide transportation for children to/from school, family visits, placements, and when safety requires two staff. Transportation may take you across the State several times throughout each week and after hours.
- Support emergency situations (e.g., new removals, hospital supervision) as directed by a supervisor.
- Collaborate with primary caseworkers and supervisors to ensure seamless communication during emergency coverage.
- Maintain and regularly update a shared calendar with scheduled visits and assigned tasks (supervisor-approved)
- Participate in daily MAP meetings to support team coordination.
- Attend quarterly (or as needed) check-ins with caseworkers and supervisors to review visitation progress.
- Refer all case-specific questions to the assigned caseworker.
- Greet and assist walk-in clients and visitors professionally.
- Answer and route phone calls; provide basic information as needed.
- Assist with office tasks, and general clerical support.
- Previous and/or current experience working for the Utah Division of Child & Family Services (DCFS).
- Has worked with the State's social welfare database system, SAFE
- Adobe Pro, Google and Microsoft experience.

- May require 24-hour on-call services/time. 24-hour on-call services response time to be determined by the agency.
- Department of Human Resource Management rules regarding promotions and transfers apply to current employees.
- Travel required; you may be required to use your personal vehicle to perform the duties of this position; approved mileage is reimbursable through State Finance.
- All DCFS job offers are contingent upon passing a Background Screening Application (BSA).
- Must have a valid Utah driver’s license.
- A position’s eligibility for hybrid work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.
- The State of Utah requires all employees to physically work inside the State of Utah Boundaries.
- Moderate - Some of the work performed requires some physical exertion. You may be required to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend; crouch; stoop; stretch; reach; lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.), e.g. lifting a small child in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time .
- Moderate Risk - Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g. safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work, however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
