Session: Summer (May - August)
Position Title:Waterfowl Management Intern
Hiring Manager: Rocco Murano
Agency:Department of Game, Fish, and Parks
Location: Watertown
Minimum Salary: $18.83 Hourly
Intern duties will include assisting with numerous waterfowl research projects and waterfowl management activities in eastern South Dakota. The intern will assist in all aspects of migratory bird management including morning dove, duck, and Canada goose banding; banding site maintenance; nest dragging, waterfowl nesting structure maintenance; GPA habitat management, data entry; and other assigned duties. Job responsibilities will require a flexible work schedule that will require work time during early mornings, evenings, and potentially on weekends and holidays. Duties will occasionally require travel away from the Watertown Regional Wildlife Office and require overnight stay. Majority of work will be completed while outside and occasionally in extreme hot or inclement weather conditions.
Qualifications
Knowledge of: life history and habitat requirements of waterfowl; techniques used for capturing and banding migratory birds, ability to operate boats, ATV's, and equipment used to manipulate habitat; and ability to operate global positioning systems is desired.
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.

- APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.
