The Capitol Protective Service- Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily security operations at the State Capitol Complex, ensuring the safety of elected officials, staff, visitors, and facilities. This position provides direct supervision to security officers and security monitoring personnel, maintaining consistent and professional security coverage across the complex.

The supervisor manages staff scheduling, timekeeping, training coordination, and performance oversight, while also supporting recruitment and onboarding efforts. This role plays a key part in planning and staffing security for special events, monitoring demonstrations and public activity, and responding to incidents as needed.

Serving as a primary liaison with Capitol stakeholders, law enforcement agencies, and external partners, the Security Supervisor ensures effective communication and coordination in both routine and high-profile situations. The position requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to provide hands-on support during staffing shortages or critical incidents.

Candidates must be certified law enforcement officers or able to obtain reciprocity within the state.

Licenses And Certifications

The Ideal Candidate Will

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.

This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
