Job Responsibilities

Position Overview:

Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School is seeking a dedicated and skilled Vocational Teacher to provide hands-on career and technical education to students in a structured, supportive environment. This role focuses on equipping students with practical skills, workplace readiness, and personal responsibility to help them succeed in future employment or continued training.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, competency-based instruction in assigned vocational area (e.g., carpentry, automotive, culinary, welding, or similar fields)
• Develop lesson plans aligned with state standards and workforce readiness goals
• Provide hands-on training while maintaining a safe and organized learning environment
• Assess student progress and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs
• Incorporate employability skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving
• Maintain equipment, tools, and inventory related to the vocational program
• Collaborate with academic staff, counselors, and administration to support student success
• Model professionalism, accountability, and positive behavior
  
  

Qualifications

Minimum and Additional Requirements

• High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Valid teaching certification in Career and Technical Education (CTE) or ability to obtain certification
• Demonstrated experience in a skilled trade or vocational field
• Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills
• Experience working with at-risk or alternative education students preferred
