We are looking for teammates who are:?

  • Knowledgeable in accounting principles and auditing standards
  • Knowledgeable of state and federal rules, regulations, and status pertinent to tax compliance
  • Able to use their oral and written skills to effectively explain provisions of tax law
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of independently prioritizing tasks
  • Eager to use their knowledge of Microsoft Office products

What you will do:?

As a Tax & Audit Training Specialist, you will coordinate all activities and programs in the SCDOR Audit, Licensing, & Enforcement division that address auditor training and development under limited supervision.

Primary job duties include:?

  • Leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive training program for auditors in collaboration with organizational leadership
  • Coordinating and conducting auditor training sessions and ensuring consistent communication and execution of training objectives
  • Scheduling training for audit teams and individual audit staff
  • Acting as a liaison between the SCDOR Audit, Licensing, & Enforcement division and the Training section of the SCDOR
  • Developing various instructional and technical manuals covering a wide range of tax types, including complex and specialized tax situations
  • Researching and interpreting federal and state tax law
  • Using all available resources to train, educate, and develop the SCDOR audit staff
  • Coordinating training sessions for the public

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree and relevant program experience.

Additional Requirements

  • A valid driver's license
  • The ability for statewide travel with occasional overnight stay

Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree, or higher, in a business-related field
  • Eighteen hours of account coursework
  • An active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
  • Experience in accounting, auditing, finance, or tax preparation and/or analysis
  • At least two years of experience in tax return preparation or auditing of tax returns
  • Considerable knowledge of accounting principles, methods, procedures, and their application to South Carolina Tax Acts and Regulations

  • Hours: Flexible hours may be available from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).
  • Telework schedule: This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per weekafter one year of employment with SCDOR.
  • Office location: Depending on space availability, you may have theoptionto choose which SCDOR office you work in (Columbia, Charleston, Florence, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, or Rock Hill.).
