Overview
The SCSM Public Programs Coordinator supports the museum’s goal of offering innovative and creative public programming that highlights the Museum’s Reimagine the Experience initiative and other key Museum community engagement efforts. Specifically, the Public Programs Coordinator serves as the primary lead for event planning and the successful execution of community engagement programs. This work includes logistical coordination, vendor communication and coordination, and administrative tasks. When needed, this position will provide logistical support for educational public programs, including Accessibility Mornings and Disability Celebration Day, and volunteer and staff programs, and work alongside, and meet regularly with, other corresponding coordinator positions in other departments, including the Membership Coordinator, Special Events Coordinator, and the Foundation Assistant/Coordinator. This position will report to the Head of Community Engagement.
Responsibilities
Public program planning and execution:
- Serve as primary event manager and coordinator; coordinate interdepartmental planning and staffing for community engagement programs
- Communicate and coordinate with program vendors and partners
- Field and submit invoices
- Identify, procure, and organize event supplies and materials
- Serve as the primary event manager responsible for the successful execution of SCSM community engagement programs.
- Coordinate and assist in event setup and breakdown
- Event troubleshooting
- Work as handler for partners and VIPs
- All other duties as assigned
Museum support
- Volunteer event support
- Staff event support
- All other duties as assigned
Basic Requirements
- A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment
- At least two years of experience with event planning and execution
- At least two years of experience coordinating with event vendors including scheduling and fielding invoices
- Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite in a business setting
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Some after-hours, weekend, and/or holiday work hours required
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to access work areas
- Able to lift file boxes weighing up to 35 pounds
- Ability to climb stairs, and push carts
- The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.

- College degree in a related field
- Experience working in museums or other cultural institutions
Salary : $45,300 - $50,000
