Job Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

The Psychology Instructor is responsible to the Division Dean for the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, for the delivery of quality instruction and management of students enrolled in Psychology courses and advisement of students in the Associate of Arts/Sciences Programs. Responsibilities occur in the areas of instructional development, teaching performance, student advisement, professional development, college/community service, and instructional management.

Job Duties

Instructional Development:

  • Work with members of the Arts and Sciences Advisory Committee to participate in planning for new and existing programs and courses.
  • Assist in the development of Psychology curricula for students in all college programs.
  • Evaluate courses in the Psychology curricula.
  • Assist in the refinement of curricula for Psychology courses.

Teaching Performance

  • Teach courses as assigned and in accordance with the established syllabi.
  • Utilize effective distance learning technologies for the provision of at least one section annually.
  • Provide high quality instruction in Psychology for students on a regular basis.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis.
  • Participate in the Faculty Performance Management System.
  • Achieve at least a 3.5 on student evaluations and satisfactory peer/supervisor evaluations.

Student Advisement

  • Work with the Student Services Division in the selection, recruitment, admission and retention of students and to utilize counseling services.
  • Advise and maintain records of assigned student advisees in accordance with divisional policy and procedures.
  • Provide effective academic advisement for students enrolled in the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science Programs.
  • Cooperate with the Student Services Division in the placement and follow-up of students.
  • Maintain office hours as required to meet needs of students, faculty, and advisees.

Professional Development

  • Represent the Division and College by participating in community and professional meetings.
  • Attend relevant professional meetings.
  • Maintain a current awareness of educational innovations and trends appropriate to provision of high quality instruction in content area.

College Community Service

  • Actively initiate and perform effective student recruitment activities in high schools and in the community.
  • Implement marketing activities for Associate of Science and the Associate of Arts Program.
  • Utilize the services of staff specialists and coordinators.
  • Maintain contacts with appropriate professional and community organizations/individuals in the College service area.
  • Serve actively on College committees.
  • Work cooperatively with other divisional faculty members and College divisions to meet the educational needs of students.

Instructional Management

  • Foster and promote the relevance of language and communications skills for all degree, diploma, and certificate programs.
  • Maintain proper control and effective use of all physical facilities and supplies in the assigned division.
  • Prepare reports in cooperation with division dean for input into the planning/reporting system.
  • Administer student regulations within the division.
  • Insure communication of policies, procedures, and campus information to all students.
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned by the Division Dean.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

Master's degree in Psychology or master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Psychology.
