Job Summary:


Project Coordinator (PC) will be responsible for assisting the Project Director in managing and coordinating the SC State -1890 Research and Extension Program’s Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) and Expanded Commodities grant day-to-day activities. The Scope of Work and job description of the PC includes facilitating, planning, coordinating, organizing, conducting, implementing, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) and Expanded Commodities to grant leadership and partners.


Job Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the operations and management of the Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) and Expanded Commodities
  • Assist the Project Director in designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, reporting, and disseminating all aspects of the Project to its various publics. 
  • Prepare project information to be used by the Project director, Project Implementation Team and external (local, state, and federal) entities.
  • Coordinate the work and activities of postdocs, research technicians, extension agents, project participants (farmers) undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Schedule and coordinate project meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Facilitate and prepared technical training materials and activities; conduct site visits to participating farms; and develop and submit field reports per the Scope of Work.
  • Ability to communicating effectively in public settings, both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate the development, reporting, and dissemination of Impact Statements, Success Stories, Contact Hours, and post-project evaluations.
  • Ability to prepare, write, proofread, edit, format, and submit progress reports, quarterly and annual reports, and other documents.
  • Ability to collect and decipher information to prepare written reports.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and understandings.
  • Ability to establish a good relationship with administrators, faculty and staff, project participants, and implementing partners.
  • Ability to interpret, prepare, and monitor the Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) and Expanded Commodities Plan of Work; and coordinate and collaborate reporting and dissemination of information to appropriate sources upon approval.
  • Provide and coordinate effective delivery of project information for internal and external use/consumption results.
  • Assist Project Director with special projects and issues that concern project leadership, implementation, fiscal responsibilities, and supervising as assigned.
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or Project Implementation Team.


Education and Experience:

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field and 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in agriculture, environmental sustainability, natural resource management, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in program or project leadership, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of large-scale initiatives.
  • Proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary teams, and complex projects, preferably funded through federal, state, or large institutional grants.
  • Experience working with mitigation strategies, or smart agriculture practices.
  • Strong background in stakeholder engagement, including collaboration with government agencies, academic institutions, community organizations, and private sector partners.

Work Environment: 

Expected to work beyond the traditional 8:30 am - 5:00 pm work schedule.

Physical Requirements:

Position may involve occasional bending, moving, lifting, and carrying materials weighing up to 40 pounds.

Application Requirements/Special Instructions:

This position is federally funded by the Farm Bill (Agriculture Improvement Act) Section 1444, Agricultural Extension Activities at 1890 Land-Grant Institutions / Section 1445, Agricultural Research Activities at 1890 Land Grant Institutions.


The individual must have the ability to perform duties on own initiative while receiving minimal supervision. The employee must be able to use good judgment in making decisions, exhibit a good working relationship with people, and highly dependable in planning, implementing, and reporting activities. Individuals must be able to relate to diverse rural/urban people as well as professionals. A valid driver's license is required. Individual will work with program leaders and other staff in short-term and long-term planning to develop statewide initiative plans which reflect the program needs and priorities for the counties, as well as the state and federal commitments Overnight in-state and out-of-state travel is required.
