Job Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and supervise all instructional mailroom operations.
  • Coordinate activities between the institution and the U. S. Post Office.
  • Supervise postal specialists position; supervise the receiving, sorting, and distribution of all U.S. and departmental mail to ensure proper delivery.
  • Open and inspect all incoming mail for contraband.
  • Prepares various logs and reports daily.
  • Maintain accurate accounting of all funds.
  • Supervise and coordinate fiscal activities for the E. H. Cooper Trust Fund.
  • Serves as notary public for inmate population.
  • Work closely with property control officer in handling packages received through U.S. Postal service.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of postal regulations.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and work experience in postal, courier or delivery operations.

SCDC Minimum Requirements

  • A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations with one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • An associate degree or higher with one (1) year of supervisory experience may be substituted for the required work experience.
