What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lieutenant (#012908) Wateree River Correctional Institution, Rembert (SUMTER) Level 2 position at State of South Carolina?
Under limited supervision, instructs inmates in an established vocational training program in horse care and stable management according to established curriculum.
Responsible for ensuring all pasture lands and buildings are properly maintained including mowing, fence maintenance and other areas as required.
Make sanitation, safety and security inspections of all buildings, grounds and vehicles.
Ensures horses receive proper medical care to include vaccinations and medications as needed, administers minor medical care.
Orders supplies and feed as needed.
Maintains proper logs and paperwork is completed in a timely manner.
Monitors area to ensure security and safety of the stable and surrounding areas. Interviews, selects and supervises inmates assigned to the program.
Other duties as required.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
- Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
