As the Lead General Maintenance Technician your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the electronic ticketing system for repairs and preventive maintenance for equipment on the campus of the Columbia State Farmers Market.
- Overseeing and/or performing HVAC maintenance along with problem diagnosis and repairs.
- Completing/directing general maintenance staff to complete basic electrical and plumbing repairs, conversions, and maintenance (e.g. backflow prevention device certification) for state owned buildings on the campus of the State Farmers Market in West Columbia.
- Providing analytical and sample preparation instrumentation support and repair where possible.
- Serving as point of contact and project facilitator for larger-scale repairs and renovations.
- Preparing for the installation of new laboratory equipment and training with equipment installers to assist with preventative maintenance of equipment where possible.
- Adhering to weekly and monthly maintenance schedules of equipment / facilities and maintaining accurate records of preventative maintenance.
- Assisting with light carpentry, plumbing, and other maintenance items.
- Performing a variety of preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment and building systems for the buildings owned or operated by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture on the campus of the State Farmers Market.
- Providing and/or overseeing basic repairs and maintenance services for facilities to include, but not limited to custodial equipment, large equipment (such as compactors, mowers, compressors) lighting (e.g. bulb/ballast replacement), doors, windows, floors, ceilings, plumbing, and furniture.
- Serving as the point of contact and facilitator for commercially contracted maintenance services such as but not limited to HVAC and compressor services.
- Assisting with landscaping duties to include mowing, edging, leaf blowing, etc. during peak times.

- A high school diploma and formal training in one or more trades area such as HVAC, carpentry, small engine repair, compressors, etc.
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate a vehicle.
- Three or more years related experience.
- Skill in making emergency repairs and adjustments to equipment used in the building and maintenance work.
- Ability to comprehend blue prints, plans and specifications.
- Knowledge and experience of safety practices relevant to area of employment,
- Knowledge and experience of common tools, equipment, materials, and supplies used in the designated trade.
- Knowledge and experience of techniques, methods, requirements, and practices use in the designed trade.
- Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold and have the ability to endure long periods of walking and standing.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to climb steps and ladders, as well as occasionally work on elevated surfaces.
- Ability to bend, kneel and stoop.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
