Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision of the Supervisor of Housekeeping, the employee provides custodial services to assigned building/ dorm units. Works independently and keep supervisor abreast of any issues as it relates to custodial services. May serve as front line supervisor of a small group of custodial workers. Must be able to read and write legibly and able to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Performs housekeeping duties as required to provide a safe, sanitary, clean, and pleasant environment for the consumers and staff to live and work through a structured cleaning program, maintain units in acceptable condition as outlined by South Carolina Department of Public Health standards.
  • Maintains floors in unit by dust mopping, wet mopping, and buffing. Walls, doors, furniture, and beds are to be cleaned as scheduled. Picture frames, furniture, mirrors, and ledges should be dusted daily. Clean restrooms and showers.
  • Searches, removes, and disposes of debris from outside of unit. Empties cigarette disposals. Keeps supply and janitorial closet organized and clean. Issues supplies daily.
  • Organizes duties to avoid conflict with unit programs. Follows-up in allowed time on inspections of units given by supervisor. Coordinates cleaning of entire unit in the event of staff shortage.

The positions for this posting are located at Coastal Regional Center, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID) of BHDD-OIDD located in Summerville, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

Experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or pest control work that is directly related to the area ofemployment.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of how to properly carry out custodial, housekeeping or pest control tasks. Knowledge of custodial, housekeeping or pest control standards and requirements. Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment. Knowledge of personnel practices in state government. Skill in the use of cleaning tools and equipment. Ability to keep accurate written records. Ability to plan, direct and review the work of subordinates. Ability to train new employees in the proper performance of their duties.

Immunization: If this position requires the applicant to work directly with consumers of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, tuberculosis (TB) skin or blood testing must be completed prior to beginning employment. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, employees of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
