Operates and maintains excavator with specialized tree cutting attachment throughout the district. Responsible for extension tree removal and munching utilizing a 25 ton excavator on uneven, wet and sloped terrain with a 3 ton fix tooth cutting head capable of cutting any size tree. Operates excavator adjacent to live traffic on interstate and primary and secondary routes. Loads and operates semi-truck/tractor-trailer transporting wide load motorized equipment. Conduct safety inspections (preventive maintenance) on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Produces daily records of work performed and material used, records such as HMMS and the requests and complaint forms. Sets-up traffic control according to SCMUTCD standards to warn motorist of road work ahead. Assists in emergency operations when crew is in an “On-Call" status after hours, weekends and holidays for all road emergencies including inclement weather, snow and ice, or hazardous road conditions and accidents.
Performs other related duties as assigned.One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis. Works overtime as necessary.
