The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (Academy), Facilities Management Unit, is seeking a Maintenance Technician to supervise and assist inmate personnel in maintenance, groundskeeping, and custodial functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and assist inmate staff in general maintenance and custodial duties.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings and training for assigned inmate staff.
- Perform accurate inmate staff counts throughout the day.
- Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs for existing and newly acquired equipment.
- Operate a van to transport inmate staff as needed; maintain accurate vehicle logs.
- Conduct vehicle inspections to ensure assigned vehicles are safe and operable.
- Ensure compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Perform occasional weekend duties as operational needs require.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
- High school diploma
- One year of job-related experience
About you
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of the inmate personnel.
- Considerable knowledge in the use of various trades and craft tools and equipment.
- Must be able to handle and respond to emergency situations.
- Must possess the knowledge and skills to perform protection and security practices.
- Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs. for prolonged distances (at least 50 feet).
- Must be able to walk (300 yards) and stand for long periods of time (2 1/2 hours) and climb steps, stairs, and inclined ADA ramps.
- Must be able to endure adverse weather conditions.
- Must be available for occasional weekend work.
