Responsibilities

  • You will research, investigate and provide interpretations on OSHA Health Standards and Health Variances.
  • You will provide technical assistance on OSHA Health Standards to internal stakeholders, as well as, public and private sector employers and employees.
  • You will manage the sampling program for OSHA Enforcement to include packing and shipping of samples and reviewing billing for accuracy.
  • You will be responsible for assisting with the OSHA equipment inventory, including coordinating the repair of existing equipment and purchasing of new safety and health equipment.
  • You will research and recommend health standards for adoption.
  • You will research, evaluate, and provide opinions on variance requests for health standards from employers and assist with variance hearings and writing orders.
  • You will perform a variety of other duties including, but not limited to, preparing reports, writing orders, and assisting with hearings.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health.
  • A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the OSHA Training Program or two (2) years’ experience in Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Twelve (12) semester hours in chemistry.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in industrial hygiene programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of the interpretive application of State OSHA standards and regulations promulgated in the OSHA Act of 1970.
  • Ability to make decisions and interpret State rules and regulations.
  • Ability to coordinate standards on a statewide basis in researching proposed variances.
  • Ability to develop well-founded recommendations.
  • Ability to prepare concise written documentation of field research conclusions.
  • Ability to meet and deal effectively with management, collective organizations, labor and governmental officials.
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing.

Other Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and 10-year MVR that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines.
  • Must be able to drive a state or personal vehicle to complete assigned job duties.
  • Position primarily works in an office environment with extended periods of sitting and standing.
  • May require occasional work outside of normal office hours.
  • May require some overnight travel.
  • Must be physically able to lift 25 lbs.
