Under the direct supervision of the Direct Support Professional III this position:

  • Ensures health and safety of each consumer while following the prescribed behavior support plan (BSP), dining protocol, lifting protocol, and training and service programs as outlined in their individual support plan. Provides guidance and mentoring to entry-level Direct Support Professionals on an on-going basis. As an essential employee, will be required to work overtime to ensure consumer safety and supervision depending on various activities and hazardous weather conditions. Reports to duty as outlined in policy and procedures and assumes accountability of the assigned individual(s).
  • In accordance with Agency and Office guidelines, rules, and regulations, follows sound professional techniques while providing direct, hands-on individual care to all consumers as needed. Participates in training and provides guidance to consumers in the development of activities of daily living skills. Transports and monitors consumers to and from off campus appointments, programs, and activities.
  • In accordance with ICF-IID active treatment standards, implements training and service programs as outlined in the individual support plan, assists with daily activities, and engages consumers in group activities.
  • In keeping with the individual support plan, completes timely and accurate data collection and/or assessments. Maintains documentation in compliance with Agency and Office policies and procedures. Provides input and engages as an active member of the interdisciplinary team. Participates in team meetings and scheduled staff meetings as required.
  • Responsible for reporting significant events and suspected abuse immediately per Agency and Office policies and procedures.
  • Ensures safe, orderly, neat, clean environment for all consumers. Responsible for following all Agency and Office policies and procedures and may be required to perform additional duties as required.

Positions for this posting are located at Whitten Regional Center, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID) of BHDD-OIDD located in Clinton, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This position is eligible for up to $3.50/hour shift differential for applicable shifts!

Sign-on bonus for eligible candidates will be distributed after three, six, nine, and twelve months of successful continuous Full-Time employment.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A High School Diploma or GED, and three (3) years of experience working with Individuals with Disabilities and Special Needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Administrative abilities and general knowledge of intellectual disabilities. Basic computer skills to include the use of Therap and SCEIS Central for time and leave purposes (Electronic Documentation System). Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations and basic safety practices. A valid Driver's License.

Physical abilities including lifting, pushing, standing, stooping, kneeling, and running. Ability to work with individuals who may be physically aggressive or medically fragile. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments for certain periods of time.

Immunization:
If this position requires the applicant to work directly with consumers of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, tuberculosis (TB) skin or blood testing must be completed prior to beginning employment. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, employees of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
