Responsibilities of the Deputy Director:
- Supervises staff to include preparing performance planning and evaluation documents and related personnel paperwork. Coaches, counsels and trains employees. Establishes and monitors work processes. Implements management policies and initiatives and promotes teamwork.
- Lead and manage all aspects of the administration, construction, and sustainment/maintenance of Veteran Nursing Homes and state Veteran cemeteries, real property, leased facilities, and land management (administration). Manages the department's Comprehensive Permanent Improvement Plan (CPIP) program, tasks and associated activities. Accompanies the Director of Veteran Homes and/or the Secretary to Joint Bond Review Committee and other legislative hearings (as required).
- Oversees preventive maintenance (routine and non-routine) inspection of agency facilities at Veteran homes sites, State Veteran Cemeteries and other department facilities and real property. Provides advice on all matters pertaining to facilities and infrastructure, including facility planning and program development, capital repair, restoration, improvement planning, and development of budgetary resourcing requirements. Advises on all matters pertaining to physical plant maintenance: including repair program planning, support to construction, minor alterations and improvement, facilities condition inspection, energy management, facilities maintenance and repair service contracts, and grounds management. Develops, justifies, and submits fiscal resourcing input to the Director of Veteran Homes for annual and emerging facility requirements. Leads the Facility Management Division.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements:
- The candidate must have a thorough understanding of the principles and best practices associated with construction and project management.
- The candidate must have an intimate knowledge of the federal construction grant programs of the US Department of Veterans affairs, to include that of the National Cemetery Administration.
- The candidate must be capable of managing multiple complex projects, with multi-source funding, simultaneously.
- The candidate must understand the state Comprehensive Permanent Improvement Plan process and its relationship to the Joint Bond Review Committee.
- The candidate must be able to effectively communicate project scope, scale, and status to a broad array of audiences in both written and verbal mediums.
