Reporting to the Director of the Office of Accessibility (OA), the Coordinator is an integral part of the OA team and supports all aspects of service provision to students:
  • Evaluates requests and determines student eligibility for disability-related accommodations.
  • Provides guidance, support and training to students on self-advocacy and use of accommodations.
  • Communicates and collaborates with faculty, staff and other university partners to coordinate and implement disability-related accommodations.
  • Provides university-wide consultation, education and training on OA processes, accommodation-related responsibilities, and campus access.
  • Participates in outreach to new and prospective students and families regarding OA processes and procedures.
  • Determines appropriate and reasonable academic, classroom and campus accommodations.
  • Provides front-line professional assistance—responds to inquiries, conducts interviews and establishes/facilitates accommodations.
  • Guides students through the accommodation request process and trains them on appropriate use of approved accommodations.
  • Serves as a consultant to faculty and staff regarding accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Assists in developing and executing campus training and programming on appropriate topics (i.e. legal responsibilities, the accommodation process, equitable access, Universal Design of Instruction, etc.).
  • Documents and maintains appropriate electronic records of verbal and written communications with students, staff, faculty and others.
  • Prepares student accommodation eligibility correspondence for student use or OA distribution to appropriate campus partners.
  • Assists in developing and revising student policies and procedures, resources for faculty and staff, and other print and electronic information disseminated by OA.
  • Supports campus and office initiatives designed to address access on a large scale, such as orientation events, open houses and final exams.
  • Performs front-facing administrative tasks, including handling unscheduled in-person visits and general phone inquiries from students, faculty, staff, families and other guests.

  • Master’s degree in special education, counseling, psychology, social work or related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience working with diverse populations in an educational, clinical, counseling or social work setting.
  • Strong understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (as amended in 2008) and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to make presentations to diverse groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and administrators.
  • Sufficient technical skill to master required software and equipment and assist others.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple concurrent tasks successfully.
  • Professional experience at a college or university.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Travel/Overtime Requirements: Occasional evenings and weekends.
