Responsibilities Of The Advocate Supervisor

INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

Program Coordinator I: Under limited supervision provides support, guidance and programmatic supervision to volunteers assigned to advocate in Family Court through the South Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program. The Advocate Supervisor supports office functions necessary for effective volunteer advocacy and assists with recruiting and training new volunteers. The Advocate Supervisor inputs program information as needed into the database for tracking county statistical information. The Advocate Supervisor is responsible for assigning volunteers to child abuse/neglect cases and providing assistance to the volunteers with case management and court preparation. The Advocate Supervisor assists with planning and facilitating continuing education of volunteers. As the Advocate Supervisor, performs direct child advocacy as the court appointed Guardian ad Litem when there is an inadequate pool of volunteers to serve in this capacity.

Ability to exercise judgment and discretion concerning confidential information and case management. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, co-workers and partner agencies. Ability to perform multiple tasks, prioritize scheduling and organization required. Ability to train and supervise volunteers. Knowledge of computer applications and data entry. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Employee must be able to work under limited supervision and exercise discretion concerning confidential information; responsible for providing day to day case management, court preparation, supervision and assistance to volunteer advocates; ability to follow directions and leadership of County Director, Regional Staff and State Office Staff; responsible for following the South Carolina statutes applicable to the Guardian ad Litem Program and the Best Practices established for the SCGAL Program.

  • Assigns volunteers to children in cases of child abuse/neglect; provides supervision and support to volunteers to ensure compliance with law, policy and program's objectives regarding the best interest of the children. Provides assistance with the preparation for court and court reports and attends hearings with volunteers as required and appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate child and case specific information in the database; coordinates the receipt of monthly monitoring reports (MMR) and inputs data into the database while maintaining a tracking system of monthly monitoring reports received.
  • Assist with training new and existing volunteers according to program guidelines. Assist with recruiting a diverse and sufficient pool of volunteers so that all cases can be assigned to a volunteer and maintain policy guidelines regarding case assignments to staff and volunteers.
  • Performs administrative functions for the county office that promote effective and efficient achievement of program goals and objectives.
  • Perform direct child advocacy as the court appointed Guardian ad Litem when there is an inadequate pool of volunteers to serve in this capacity.
  • Complete any special assignments or tasks as assigned by County Director.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

  • A high school diploma and relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR).

Additional Requirements:

  • Position may require overnight trave.
  • Position may require the employee to work evenings and weekends.
  • Position requires routine driver duties.
  • Position requires frequent lifting: 25 lbs.
  • Position requires non-Essential declaration.
  • Position may be required to report to work during emergency situations.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment, but travel and field work will be required in areas where there are some risks and hazards that are known, predictable and controllable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
