Job Overview:
This position is in the Operations & Customer Experience Division of the South Carolina State Museum Commission. The Visitor Services Associate is a guest-facing position that takes shifts between running the museum’s admissions desk and operating the museum’s 4D Theater. Responsibilities and Duties:
- Operating the museum’s ticketing system, checking in guests as they enter and reserving showtimes at the museum’s theaters.
- Operating the museum’s 4D Theater, including checking in guests, starting shows, maintaining glasses stock, and assisting with basic troubleshooting.
- Providing exceptional customer service to guests, resolving problems, and remaining up to date on museum offerings.
- Answering the museum’s main phone line to assist guest inquiries and transfer calls.
- Assisting in maintaining inventory of supplies, including ticket stock, brochures, and maps.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the State Museum’s admissions desk, 4D Theater and main lobby.
- Supporting the State Museum’s programs, exhibitions, and special initiatives through visitor engagement.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience with customer service, amusement organizations, theaters, and/or retail preferred
- On-the-job training provided
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the museum lobby
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
Additional Requirements:
- Must be available to work a flexible, rotating part-time schedule, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings. Core hours for this position are Tue–Sat (9:30–5) and Sun (11:30–5), with occasional Monday or early/late event coverage.

- Core museum operations hours are Tue-Sat: 9:30-5:00 | Sun: 11:30-5:00, with occasional need for morning, evening, or Monday event coverage.
