This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center Tri-County Stabilization Unit 3685 Rivers Ave #302, North Charleston, SC 29405.

Under limited supervision the Counselor will provide support, clinical treatment, educational, consultative and preventive mental health services to patients at Tri-County Crisis Stabilization Unit to enhance recovery.

Responsibilities for the Counselor II include:

  • Provide quality person-centered care as demonstrated by the use of evidence - based clinical interventions.
  • Provide all forms of direct clinical services, including PRS group, and PRS individual as credential by the Center and measured by a productivity expectation.
  • Collect, organize, and record data and information for medical records in accordance with QI guidelines that is reflective of quality patient care.
  • Demonstrate recognition of importance of collaboration, customer service and teamwork with the Center, TCSC and the community.
  • Attend all trainings classified mandatory by Federal and State regulations and Center policy. Comply with all OMH / CDMHC / TCSC polices and protocols, applicable Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance, and Cultural Competence, and CARF policy, procedure and regulation and all Federal State laws.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.
Additional Requirements
  • This position is considered essential and may require reporting for duty in the event of a weather or similar emergency events

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Post hire, employee must:


  • Have working knowledge of Mental Health legal principles and practices, of methods, principles and practices of clinical counseling and educational services.
  • Have considerable knowledge of psychopathology and patient management in psychiatric setting.
  • Have working knowledge of basic health and welfare services provided by other agencies.
  • Be able to effectively plan, coordinate and manage complex treatment and to the ability to conduct detailed investigations, draw conclusions and recommend required actions.

Available Shifts:
Friday - Saturday 11:00 pm to 7:00 am
Saturday - Sunday 3:00 pm to 11 :00 pm
Saturday - Sunday 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
