The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for an Electronics Tech II for the Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS). Governor Morehead School is a residential school, responsible for providing educational instruction to visually impaired students in grades K-12 from across North Carolina.


Summary or Brief Description of Work: 

This position provides planning, scheduling, and installation of complex electronics and electrical based control systems, including but not limited to, building fire alarm life safety systems, internet and phone communication systems, video surveillance systems, electronic and pneumatic security control systems, and building automation systems for the completion of Force Account construction, renovation, major maintenance and repair projects. The Electronics Technician II works hands-on and side by side training and mentoring Electronic Technician I personnel assigned to the Electronics Department. Work Schedule: Monday— Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. This is an essential position that will be required to report to work during adverse weather.

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:

  • Installation, programming, testing, and troubleshooting of head end control equipment used with fire alarm life safety systems, internet and phone communication systems, video surveillance systems, electronic security control systems, and/or building automation systems.
  • Installation of low voltage conduit and circuitry for fire alarm life safety systems, internet and phone network communication systems, video surveillance systems, electronic and security control systems, and/or building automation systems.
  • Knowledge and use of test equipment to diagnose electronic components.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction industry safety requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Able to work in small and confined spaces; ability to work on ladders for extended periods of time.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Associate degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of complex electronic systems including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus.

NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to pass Criminal Background Check. 
  • Must be able to pass drug screening.


Physical Requirements:

HEAVY WORK - Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Work may be performed in extreme environmental conditions including adverse weather conditions. Position must be capable of working from elevated work platforms up to 60 feet in height. Able to work in small and confined spaces; ability to work on ladders for extended periods of time.
