What are the responsibilities and job description for the Correctional Behavioral Specialist I-Anson Correctional position at State of North Carolina?

This position is located at Anson Correctional Institution, Polkton, NC. This position is a member of the multidisciplinary Mental Health Treatment Team, providing professional rehabilitative mental health services to offenders who are identified as having mental, social, physical, emotional and/or cognitive impairments.

Responsibilities

  • Documentation in the healthcare record, facilitation of psychoeducational groups, creating group activities, and offering feedback/clinical impressions as part of a treatment team.
  • Facilitation of curriculum-based and leisure activity groups and provision of individual support to offenders.
  • The position may be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and inventorying supplies used for programming.
  • Employee will monitor offenders as they work on treatment goals in the Residential milieu and serve as an active member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • The employee will monitor the adjustment of offenders and implement specific techniques aimed at stress management, social skill development, adapting to the demands of the prison environment, and planning for return to the community.
  • Employee’s supportive counseling role includes use of Crisis Intervention techniques and referral to clinical staff for follow-up as necessary.

Management Preference

  • Documented knowledge of psychological and social assessments and treatment plans.
  • Documented knowledge of psychological principles and psychometric theory to properly administer and score individual and group psychological tests.

Bachelors degree in psychology or other human services field from an appropriately accredited institution with several classes in psychology,

or

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Note: Positions being recruited specifically for diagnostics will require at least one year administering and/or conducting psychological testing.

The Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

The Division of Comprehensive Health Services is dedicated to providing evidence-based, compassionate, and constitutionally consistent medical care to all offenders in custody. Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release. The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
