Description of Work

Reporting to a Correctional Lieutenant III and/or Correctional Housing Unit Manager III this position is responsible for assisting the Correctional Lieutenant and/or in the supervision of Correctional Officers at a medium and close custody institution. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following:
- Supervising Correctional Officer III’s in a close-custody institution with restrictive and controlled housing.
- Assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post, arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures, and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
- Overseeing officer activities/performance and ensuring that the custody, security, and welfare of offenders are maintained.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
- Knowledge of Facility Operations.
- Knowledge of Prisons’ Policy and Procedures.
Necessary Special Qualifications:
MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
This is a full-time position working rotating shifts with State Benefits .

The salary grade for this position is NC09 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer
