The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Duties of the Landscape Architect Trainee/Assistant Landscape Architect include, but are not limited to: Preparing plans, specifications, and estimates for the landscape, roadway, wetland mitigation, grading, drainage, sidewalk, bike path, stormwater quality, and quantity management portions of highway and bridge projects; Utilizing MicroStation, Inroads, Hydro CADD, ProjectWise, and other software packages to perform project work; Coordinating landscape and site work with architectural and engineering work in the planning, design, and construction phases of project development; Developing presentation materials and renderings (project visualizations) for public outreach; Participating in the preparation of Design Reports, design guidance, and other written documents; Reviewing projects for environmental impacts and preparing associated documents to support environmental process determinations; Performing occasional GPS data collection for wetland delineations; Handling special assigned duties such as correspondence, interviews and investigations. Duties may require driving state vehicles, utilizing public transportation, and/or extensive walking to make on-site measurements and observations to record existing site conditions relevant to site management, maintenance, or proposed design. Successful candidates would be involved in environmental review, design, and construction of public spaces involving or impacted by state-owned walkways, bikeways, highways, viaducts, and bridges within the five boroughs of New York City. Projects may include aesthetic improvements to pedestrian and vehicular bridges, improvements to bikeway/walkways, creation of new city parks, and aesthetic and environmental improvements to roadsides and medians.*Additional duties and telecommuting to be discussed during interviewsResponsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support thedepartment’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).* To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are: Landscape Architect Trainee: 1. A bachelor's or higher-level degree in landscape architecture; OR2. A Landscape Architect's License from any state or political subdivision of the United States.As a Landscape Architect Trainee, you will serve a 24-month traineeship that leads to Assistant Landscape Architect, Grade 20. To advance to Assistant Landscape Architect, you must have obtained proof of passing any two sections of the LARE and successfully completed the requirements of the traineeship to the satisfaction of the appointing authority. At the discretion of the appointing authority, early advancement to the Assistant Landscape Architect is possible if you have obtained any two sections of the LARE and have successfully completed twelve months of the traineeship. It is your responsibility to notify the appointing authority’s personnel office upon obtaining proof of passing any two sections of the LARE. Failure to obtain a passing result on any two sections of the LARE within 24-months will result in removal from your position.Assistant Landscape Architect: 1. A bachelor’s or higher-level degree in landscape architecture; and proof of passing any two sections of the Landscape Architect Registration Exam (LARE); OR2. A Landscape Architect's License from any state or political subdivision of the United States.Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

This amount is comprised of the standard job rate of $94,121 with an additional geographic pay differential of $13,500, specific to this title and location.In addition, a Mid-Hudson Adjustment of $2,000 or a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000 may also apply depending on the location of the position.Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
