Duties Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or higher-level designee, the Trades Generalist for Regional Maintenance at Bear Mountain State Park will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:- Operate and maintain heavy equipment, motor equipment and repair.
- Maintain and service equipment, including equipment used during snow emergencies.
- Operate tractor trailers, dozer, front-end loaders, pavers, backhoes, crane, road graders, refuse packers, septic trucks, etc.
- Complete roadway work, including repairing and replacing culvert pipe and operating the paver.
- Haul work materials and complete equipment layout for each job.
- Utilize a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, chain saws, and construction equipment appropriate to the work assigned for skilled and semi-skilled maintenance repair, installation, and construction.
- Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment as well as less complex engine and component repair of construction maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Plan and diagnose work issues; read and interpret plans, diagrams, and specifications.
- Supervise as needed, troubleshoot problems, and make necessary repairs to complete assigned tasks and ensure that instructions have been followed and the quality of work is satisfactory.
- This position involves performing manual labor, including lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience* under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience.

- Must possess and maintain a valid Class A** Commercial Driver's License that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State and tank endorsement at the time of appointment as a term and condition of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete OPRHP sawyer training or equivalent within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. This training will be provided by OPRHP.
- Must have experience operating heavy equipment.
- May be required to work weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.**Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
Location Pay:
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($50,425) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).
The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($61,548) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).BENEFITS:
