The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description The Trades Generalist is responsible for the technical execution of interior and exterior maintenance, construction, and restoration services across DEC infrastructure and facilities. This position requires a comprehensive, hands-on approach to project completion, from initial assessment through final documentation. Will carry out technical and trade-specific work based on work orders, blueprints, schematics, or verbal instructions. Inspect work sites to determine materials, tools, and equipment needs; develop project plans or layouts; and select the appropriate methods for successful completion. Assemble, fabricate, build, and install required materials, equipment, and fixtures per project scope. Maintain infrastructure along with grounds keeping and snow and ice removal. Maintain and skillfully operate various types of trade, construction and farm equipment. Manage the procurement of supplies and materials from vendors, adhering to state contract requirements and utilizing preferred sources. Track and monitor the usage of supplies, materials, and equipment. Communicate and coordinate with outside vendors and contractors on projects. Ensure accurate and prompt submission of time sheets, activity reports, and completed work orders.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.Preferred Qualifications: Experience in one or more of the following: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical trades.

Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required.Overtime may be required.
