Why does the job exist?
This is a senior professional position within the Superfund Oversight Section of the Ground Water Quality Bureau that will assist the Bureau Chief and Program Manager with special projects and perform Superfund oversight work. The scope of special project work will be commensurate with the typical duties of staff performing Superfund oversight work. This senior technical staff position is responsible for the performance of environmental site assessment and the oversight of remedial actions at groundwater contamination sites. The position also performs senior technical review, provides recommendations, and participates in decision making regarding groundwater contamination sites. All work is performed in accordance with applicable New Mexico Water Quality Regulations or in accordance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), commonly known as "Superfund") and the National Contingency Plan (NCP). This position provides senior technical and administrative expertise in highly specialized technical fields of hydrology, geology, chemistry, and engineering for investigation groundwater contamination sites and implementing cleanup of Superfund sites in compliance with appropriate state and federal regulations.

Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science, Emergency Management, or Engineering and six (6) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certificate as a condition of continued employment
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Occasional travel is required. Field work up to 30% of the time with exposure to seasonal weather conditions and potential exposure to hazardous and/or radioactive waste.
