This position diagnoses and makes repairs to all light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment in a mechanic shop and field setting to ensure safe operation of vehicles for the New Mexico Department of Transportation General Office.

Minimum Qualification
Six (6) months of work experience in a repair shop or maintenance facility. Educational experience in automotive service repair may substitute for required experience. Must possess or obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License, Class A (or equivalent license from another state) within one (1) year of hire.
Employment Requirements
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing to include successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain such license within six (6) months of hire. Business reference check and driver's license verification are also required
Working Conditions
Work is performed in varying weather conditions, on hard or smooth surfaces, uneven ground, exposure to noise, fumes, high air pressures. Work may also be performed in an office setting using a computer, faxes, copiers and printer. Occasional travel is required, operations of tow truck/slider or transport is required. Ability to lift up to 50lbs or more. Will be required to travel statewide with possible overnight or more stays. Must be available to respond to emergency call outs on short notice.

- Maintain proper tools to effectively perform essential job functions.
- Perform pre-road tests on vehicles for diagnosis and post road tests for verification of accurate completion of repairs.
- Perform front end alignments, all wheel alignments, differential service and repairs, brake service and repairs, air conditioning service and repairs, engine service and repairs, tire replacement and/or repairs, electrical system diagnosis and repairs, engine service tune ups and/or repairs.
- Ensure safe and effective operations at all times for all NMDOT vehicles and equipment.
